Let’s make Wells Rock

The proposed Wells Contemporary Music Centre is beginning to take shape, with numerous music professionals and amateurs getting involved.

A wide range of activities are now being developed, including workshops, a weekend music school, open mic nights, music technology training and making – or “hacking” – novel instruments.

Nigel Fraser, of Wells CMC, explained: “What began as a plan to provide an affordable, community, rehearsal space is evolving into something even more exciting with a wide range of opportunities for people, regardless of age or ability, to enjoy.

“Wells City Council is currently consulting on the Portway Annexe and we would encourage people who want to see the Wells Contemporary Music Centre come to life to respond to the survey.

“The team is growing each week and we are pulling together a proposal that we hope will meet the music related needs and dreams that are being expressed through the current public consultation being run by the City Council.

“We will no doubt have competition for space in the Portway Annexe, but we are working hard to put an attractive proposition together for the Council to consider, that will both help fund the building and bring new, exciting opportunities to the City.

“Thank you to everyone who has shown their support, given feedback and shared ideas so far and helped bring this project to life.”
